Ogtonganons have something to be proud of again today. The 4th Fiber Fashion Fair at SM City Event Center showcased Oton’s indigenous product – the “hablon”.
After a day of staying at home because of typhoon Mina (thank God the rain stopped or else we might have experienced flooding as well), Tim and I decided to get out of the house and take advantage of the great weather.
When we arrived at SM City around 5PM, we did the usual walking around while waiting for my best friend Faith and then we saw at the event center that today was the day that the models of Oton are going to RAMPA!
Today was actually the last day of the 4th Fiber Fashion Fair and one of the highlights was the Hablon Fashion Show by the Local Government Unit of Oton. The 4th Fiber Fashion Fair was spearheaded by the Province of Iloilo in cooperation with SM City Iloilo. It was a week of Exhibition, Demonstrations and Fashion Shows. The fair started last August 22nd and ended August 28th. If only I had known of this fair earlier I would have posted the schedule of events. Next year I will surely watch out for it.
Oton Councilor Migs Flores founded the Oton Models Guild (OMG!). They were the ones who showcased all the indigenous hablon clothing outside of our municipal territory. Our kasimanwas “rampa” at SM City Iloilo Activity Center and took pride of our town’s premiere product – HABLON!
Special thanks to Hon. Juan Miguel “Migs” Mendoza Flores, Chairman, Committee on Culture, History, Arts and Tourism for allowing us to “position ourselves in front of the stage” so that we can cover/document the event on such short notice.
