I am so blessed to be living in Oton, one of the attractive rural communities in Iloilo. Oton is a first class municipality in the province of Iloilo, about 30 minutes west of the city. I get to enjoy the hustle and bustle of the city then go home to my lovely, quiet town at the end of the day. We’ve been living here for 11 years now (we used to live in Jaro). And so far I am loving my life here.
Last March 23rd to 27th, Oton held the Feria de Verano de Oton – Feria de Turismo, Industria, Cultura y Arte en Oton (Tourism, Trade, Cultural and art Exposition). We got to visit the fare on its last day minus the crowd so we were able to enjoy the exhibits closely. Oton has evolved into a very progressive society where business ventures thrive. The major agricultural products here are rice, vegetables and of course – watermelon. Commercial and trade establishments and micro-enterprises continue to increase. Diverse arts and craft ventures have also grown from local manufacturers to world-class exporters of quality products. Most notable are the hablon products of barangays Cagbang, Salngan and Lambuyao. Lampshades and home decors of Boyel Marketing, the famous Nang Palang’s Buko Pie and the bags and accessories of SEAK-Lambuyao and Pugad Artists.
The feria not only featured the products and crafts of Oton but also of other local LGUs and invited guests from Spain. Check out my photos to see the exhibit.
